Case- Attached Documents

Attached documents are a way to add any outside documents, images, etc. to the QuickEMR case record. By scanning and attaching documents to case records, a facility has the ability to truly go paperless!

Accessing the Attached Documents tab on the case screen or from the EMR Chart screen will show the screen below. All attached documents will be listed in the grid. To open an existing attachment, double-click the corresponding row in the grid. The attachment will open in its associated program where the documents can be viewed, edited, printed, etc.

Type A category for the type of document being attached to the case record. This might be something like scanned image, word document, etc. This list can be added to or changed through the Master Lists screen. To add an item to the list, right click the button beside the drop down box and add a new description. See Drop Down Lists for more information.
Title Descriptive title for the attachment
Location

The location field will reflect where the attachement has been copied TO.  When the button to the right of the location field is clicked, the Windows open file dialog box will appear. Browse to where the file currently resides on your computer or your network.

Once the file has been selected, it will be copied to the QuickEMR directory structure. Reasons for this are so that all of the attached documents are stored in the same place, ease of backing up data, and so that if you are on a network, all users will be able to access the attached documents.

If, for example, you attach a file located in your "My Documents" folder called
"patient.doc", that file is copied to
"C:\Program Files\QuickEMR\Data\EZPT\Attached Documents\CaseNo\patient.doc"

A folder is created for each case that has attached documents to further organize the attachments as shown below.

If you were to open the file from within QuickEMR on the Attached Documents screen, you are opening the file in the QuickEMR folder structure, not the original one in your My Documents folder. Any changes made would be saved to the file located in the QuickEMR folder structure.
