Grids found in the QuickEMR system such as on the Patient List and Address List screen have built in search and sorting capabilities.
To sort a grid on a particular column, click the column heading and the list displayed in the grid will be sorted alphabetically from A-Z or from 0-9. There will be an arrow pointing up next to the column heading to indicate the list is sorted in ascending order.

Click on the same column heading again, and the list will sort the opposite way from Z-A or 9-0. There will be an arrow pointing down next to the column heading to indicate the list is sorted in descending order.

This sorting feature can be used on any column in the grid. On the patient grid, for example, click on the SSN column heading to sort by social security number.
Grids can also be searched for data in any of the columns. To search by name, for example, on the patient grid, click in the name column anywhere and simply start typing. The closest match will be found and highlighted auotmatically. In the example below, the column "Name" was clicked and "Mor" was typed to highlight the current row. Once a row is highlighted, press the enter key or double-click on the highlighted row to access that particular record. To search in a different column, simply click in that column anywhere and start typing the data you are looking for.
In cases where you want to search for a name such as "Smith" and there are multiple "Smiths" in the list, you can start to type in the word "smith" and then use the down or up arrow keys to quickly get to the "smith" you want.
