This can be another powerful tool to assist users in quickly entering EMR documenation and notes. With this feature, each
user can add as many shorthand abbreviations as needed to their own personal
list that goes along with they way they type.
How it works:
As a user
types in a large text box, their shorthand list
is constantly monitored. If they type something in the list and hit the
spacebar, it gets replaced automatically with it's matching replacement. Looking
at the figure below, if the user typed in "dx" and hit the spacebar, the word
"diagnosis" would automatically replace the "dx" that was entered. Entering "pt"
and hitting the spacebar would yield the word "patient" instead. Each user can
have unlimited shorthand rules.
To add a new rule to the list, click the row containing "CLICK TO ADD NEW". The shorthand rule box will appear (Fig 2).

Enter the text to search for in the 'Replace this...' box. Enter what you want to replace it with in the 'With this...' box. Click either save button to save the new rule.
